Mantel

After Christmas we took down the decorations and I felt like my mantel was too bare.  So I spiced it up.  I added some burlap from the Christmas tree and some things from around the house.

 

I brought the garden ornament, rosemary and lanterns in from outside
and added some pretty wine bottles I had saved.

These pennants were made from an old dictionary.

When I inherited my grandma's clock, it
was smashed.  I took it out of the housing
and mounted it on some old fence board.
It doesn't work, but it sure is pretty.

Tips.

I'll start out with a few design tips that I've found helpful.

1.  Use what you have.
2.  What some call imperfect, I call rustic.
3.  "Use the right tool for the job" is crap.  See #1.
4.  If you need a new look, move things around the house.  Bring outside things in.
